Values are the code of conduct of organizational conduct. They guide the decision-making in all endeavours of the institution. They direct our actions and must both inspire and compel all staff and learners to continuously be true to them.
The Academy will be guided by the following values when planning, setting priorities and making decisions regarding the teaching and learning process:
• RESPECT, RECOGNITION, OPPORTUNITY AND ACCESS:• RESPECT, RECOGNITION, OPPORTUNITY AND ACCESS:We are living in a new democracy and therefore must embrace the values and traditions of our people, thus we must recognize the uniqueness of the individual and provide opportunities and access to all who seek the fulfillment of education intellectually and experimentally. We deem that an environment, which fosters recognition at all levels, is critical to the success of the institution.
• LOYALTY, DIGNITY AND TRUST: The Academy holds its learners and staff to the demonstration of high moral principles and professional standards both in and out of the institutional settings. We hold ourselves to the responsibility of dignity as exemplified by a proper sense of pride and self-respect in fulfilling all areas of the institution’s mission. We honour and pursue an institutional community climate that respects and celebrates the diversity of people and seek to embrace all citizens and prohibit judgments based on race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities and cultural backgrounds.
• TRANSPARENCY, OPENNESS, HONESTY AND SHARED GOVERNANCE: The Academy accepts as true that leadership characterized by vision embedded with participatory decision-making at all levels is the emblem of an effective organization. The Academy committed to providing an atmosphere in which it pursuer our joint aspirations in the spirit and practice of transparency openness, honesty and shared governance.
• RESPONSIBILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, COLLEGIALITY AND PROFESSIONALISM: The values that we must teach and emphasize of responsibility and accountability must embrace both the skills and spirit of democracy thus creating a society with innumerable opportunities for producing hard working citizens. At the heart of this lies the issue of team work and spirit – valuing dialogue and creating space for intellectual and social debate. We need to encourage the promotion of learning through interaction and engagement in a non-confrontational and non-violent manner. This enhances the development of professionalism.
